Who was your favorite character in The Giver and why?

  1. Our favorite character in The Giver is Jonas because he had the most courage out of all of the characters. He was willing to risk his life to show people the truth about their community. Jonas also has a curious personality which makes him a more riveting character. -Abby, Whitney, & Alyana

    1. Hello Parth. I agree with you that Jonas can handle stress and pain, because, except for once, he always kept his head up and was never really wishing to quit training or be released.

  3. Our favorite character in "The Giver" is Jonas. We like Jonas because he is strong-willed, curious, and unique. He didn't want to be controlled by the dystopian society in "The Giver". Jonas just wanted the people of his society to know the truth. Overall, we like Jonas for his will to know the truth.

    4. Thomas, I agree with your idea of Jonas really just wanting the truth. Because of him wanting the truth, he was able to handle the job of Receiver and was able to conjure a will strong enough to pursue his task.

  4. Brendan and Cadence -
Our favorite character in the Giver was The Giver because he is strong willed and very wise. Despite his daughter unexpectedly killing herself he is able to forget the past and think about what really matters in the moment, which shows that he can handle pain and suffering which is an important trait for the Giver/Receiver to have. When Jonas first experiences pain and death outside of giving elders shots in the arm, the Giver is there to help him regain his mind and stop feeling bad about himself and the world. He was also kind because he gave Jonas very happy memories that he will no longer posses. These traits help the Giver be a big character in the book.

    1. Cadence, I agree with your opinion, because I also think that the Giver had the strength, patience, and wisdom to fulfill his position.

  5. Our favorite character in The Giver was Jonas. The reason being he was the main character, so you really got to know him through his feelings and perspective as a more prominent character. Furthermore he was headstrong in a way that made him differ from the rest of the community and gave him the strength to pursue the journey he will encounter.

    2. Saya, I think you made a really good point about how Jonas is "headstrong in a way that made him differ from the rest of the community" because I feel that you phrased that really well and it described him perfectly.

    3. Saya and Katerina did you only pick Jonas because he is the main character or were there other reasons?

  6. Shiv and I's favorite character in the giver is Jonas because he takes on all the pain of the emotions. No one except the giver understands what he feels. The whole community is oblivious to his feelings. While Jonas is taking all this pain he has even more pressure because he must hatch an escape plan to leave the evil community lead by the chief elder. As he escapes he takes his little brother in an act of compassion while they are being hunted down by the evil chief elder trying to make utopia. While Jonas is escaping with Gabe he must transfer some of his memories to keep them safe.

  7. Cadence and Brendan- I disagree, because The Giver still gets very sad when he talked about his daughter. How did the Giver feel bad about the world. And he gave Jonas his happy memories because he was supposed to.
